Margo Reeg

Co-President

Margo Reeg, Co-President, has been a member of the League of Women Voters for over 50 years, has held Whittier League offices since 1979 including several terms as President. She is passionate about Voter Service and has been VP for Voter Service for LWV-LAC board producing the Voter Guide, presenting Ballot Briefings and conducting judicial forums and interviews.She was LWV-LAC President from 2004-2006. Elections and voting rights became a major interest after attending the LWVUS Motor Voter conference in 1995.

Margo’s experience includes membership in the Registrar-Recorder’s Community Voter Outreach Committee (CVOC), Inspector at Touchscreen Early Voting sites and regular polling places and participation with the LA County Voting System Assessment Project to design the new modern voting system for LA County. Margo was a Government Director on the LWVC Board from 1995-1999 working on Campaign Finance Reform and Voting Rights. She was a member of the Election Systems Study committee. Since 2007 she has been a Consultant for LWVC on Voting Rights, analyzing bills affecting voting. She serves as a VotersEdge.org local coordinator in LA County.

Fatima Malik

Vice President & Action and Advocacy Chair, League of Women Voters of Los Angeles County

A League of Women Voters member since 2009, Fatima Malik serves as Vice President & Action and Advocacy Chair for Los Angeles County, focusing on county-level elected positions and services. She authors advocacy and action letters to the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, Sheriff’s Department, and other county offices, championing criminal justice reform, environmental equity, voting rights, and government accountability. Her work spans legislative and policy reform, social justice initiatives, community engagement, government transparency, public participation, good governance, human rights, racial justice, equitable public safety solutions, law enforcement accountability, policing reform, and public safety policy advocacy, ensuring that government decisions reflect the League’s mission and priorities.

Fatima previously served as President of the League of Women Voters of Los Angeles County ILO (2019–2022) and Communications Director for the League of Women Voters of California. She has been a member of the League of Women Voters of Los Angeles County Board since 2014, with only a two-year break following her presidency.

Beyond the League, she is President of the Silver Lake Chamber of Commerce, supporting small businesses and economic growth. She also serves on the Grievances Committee for the Greater Los Angeles REALTORS® Association (GLAR).

Fatima holds a Business (BA) degree and has nearly six years of experience in regulatory compliance at a global money management firm, where she specialized in risk management, regulatory filings, and insider trading prevention. She also has expertise in sustainable urban development, energy efficiency, and environmentally responsible real estate practices. She holds professional certifications in Interior Architectural Design and is an Allied Member of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID). Fatima is currently completing a Post Graduate Program in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning: Business Applications at the University of Texas McCombs School of Business (completion date May 2025).

Caroline De Llamas

Secretary

At the state and county levels, Caroline currently serves as Secretary, and is a member of the Executive Committee. She is also the Southern Coordinator of the LWVC Local League Coaches Program (LLCs), and the LLC for several local Leagues. She chaired the 2013-2015 LWVC Nominating Committee, and served on the Board of Directors from 2009-2013.

Caroline has enjoyed continuous LWV membership in various California Leagues since initially joining the LWV Tulare County in 1968. She currently serves as President of the LWV East San Gabriel Valley and on the Los Angeles County ILO Board of Directors.

At the national level, Caroline joined the LWVUS Shur Fellow Program, and served from 2015 through 2018. She previously participated in the LWVUS MRI Program (known as MGIK in CA) as a coach to five California local Leagues.

A retired Professional City Clerk/Treasurer, she is a past president of the City Clerks Association of California and holds membership in various professional organizations, including the National Association of Parliamentarians.

Karen Carrey

Treasurer

Karen Carrey joined the LWVLAC board as treasurer 2½ years ago. She has been a member of the LWV of Santa Monica for 25 years and currently serves as their treasurer as well. She has served in various roles for LWV of Santa Monica, including president and secretary.

 She has served in many volunteer roles in her community since 1985, with the most served in numerous capacities with the PTA for Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District and 33rd District. Karen has a BA in Sociology and MA in Occupational Therapy and currently works as a pediatric occupational therapist.

Martha Zavala

Martha Y. Zavala has been on the Board of Directors since 2022 and serves on the board of the LWV Pasadena with a focus in voter outreach and service. Martha has a degree in History at Cal Poly Pomona. Ms. Zavala retired from Los Angeles County after 40 years of service. During her tenure Ms. Zavala helped manage the selection and replacement of the County’s aging financial, purchasing, personnel and payroll systems.

Grace Peng

Director

Dr. Grace Peng, Director, is the Natural Resources chair for the League of Women Voters of Los Angeles County. Previously, she worked as a weather and climate analyst for The Aerospace Corporation, an Air Force-sponsored lab, where her duties included calibrating and validating weather satellite data, data life-cycle planning, and data management.

She also worked as a weather and climate data specialist for the National Center for Atmospheric Research where her duties included preparing data used in weather and climate models and helping users from government and industry use data effectively to make optimal decisions. She holds a BA in mathematics and a BS in chemistry from UC Berkeley, and a Ph.D. in chemical physics from the U of Colorado, Boulder/the Joint Institute of Laboratory Astrophysics. She never stops learning; she spent the covid pandemic data crunching and earned a Specialized Certificate in Geographic Information Systems from UCSD Extension.

Nancy Mahr

Co-President

Nancy Mahr, Co-President, has been a League member for over 40 years, serving for many years on the board of the Palos Verdes Peninsula League. During that time she has served on the LWVC board as Director of Voter Service, on the LWVUS Nominating Committee, and as President of the LWV/LA County board for 8 years. She is also the Legislation Director for the California Board of American Association of University Women. Nancy Mahr earned her BA in Political Science from Occidental College.

 She received a Teaching Credential in Social Studies and English from CSULA and a Certificate in Corporate Communications from CSULB. Nancy taught high school, including two years in Kampala, Uganda, East Africa, through a Columbia University program. From 1984 to 1995, she worked in community and governmental relations for the Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District and the Palos Verdes Library District. In 1996, she became the Public Information Officer for the County of Los Angeles Public Library. Ms. Mahr retired from the County Library in 2007.

Dr. Carolyn Eggleston

Dr. Eggleston worked in social justice for 40 years, trying to help break the cycle of mass incarceration through programming inside and outside prisons. She was a professor of education at California State University, San Bernardino from 1991 to 2018.

She worked with San Bernardino agencies and organizations to establish a community collaborative for supporting parolees returning to San Bernardino County from state prison. San Bernardino County houses the second largest per capita number of parolees in the State; second only to the city of Compton.

Dr. Eggleston, as part of a statewide CSU effort, developed the CSUSB Project Rebound, a program that assists formerly incarcerated persons attend and have success at CSU. Since retirement, she serves the League of Women Voters as action chair of the Long Beach Area League, is the criminal justice representative of the LA County League of Women Voters Board, and as a member of the LWV California criminal justice committee. In addition, she works with other social justice groups and is a member of the American Association of University Women.
